how do i play super smash bros on n64?
i was wondering what the basic controls are for super smash bros on n64 and what strategies should i know to become a competitive player amongst my friends? thanks!
you have your static A-button attack and your static B-button attack (the control stick is in neutral position), your tilt-side-A attack, the tilt-up/down A attack, and of course your smash-A attack. there are also various other attacks that can be done in midair by pressing a while tilting the control stick in any direction.
As far as the B button goes, there are only 3 attacks: up-B, down-B, and static B. The up-B attack can be used as a third jump if you’re falling off the stage (you can jump by pressing up on the control stick or by tapping any of the C buttons). try jumping once, jumping again in midair, and jumping a third time with the up-B attack.
You also have a shield that you can use with the R button or the Z button. The z button will also allow you to grab an opponent if you’re near enough, and you can press a direction to throw him.
The best strategy is to play by the weight class of your character. If you’re playing as DK (a heavyweight), make sure you’re connecting with big hits instead of trying to run around and land faster but lighter hits. If you’re playing as Pikachu, be sure to hit your opponent as hard as you can, but be sure to use your speed to your advantage. Pikachu’s down-B (thunder) attack is very powerful, but leaves you vulnerable for a moment afterward, so don’t miss.
